How To Care For Your HVAC System
- Posted by: christina
Having an HVAC system is essential for keeping you and your loved ones comfortable in the summer and winter seasons. In order to keep your HVAC system working properly, it’s important to perform regular checks and maintenance on the unit so it lasts. Lack of proper care and maintenance can cause your system to malfunction and need to be replaced before its time. Taking care of your system not only protects your investment, but it helps you avoid a breakdown in the middle of extreme weather. At Abbitt HVAC, we want to help our customers get the most out of their existing unit. That’s why we’ve put together these tips to help you keep your HVAC unit performing.
Inspect your system
Visual inspection of your HVAC sytem is essential as it helps in detecting leaks in the system that are causing it to malfunction. Leaks can be detected on the condensation pipe by looking for water or liquid in this area. Any form of leaks affects the air flow in the system which in turn affects the air flow in your house. Also, clear the area around your system to ensure the air flow is not obstructed. If your HVAC system is outside, clear the bushes surrounding it to provide a clear way.
Change the filters regularly
Using the same filters for a long time can contribute to the clogging of the AC which affects how it works. Filters need to be changed at least once a month. If you have pets in your house, you will need to replace the filters more often because their hairs tend to get stuck in between. You can also consider cleaning out the filter if you do not have enough money to purchase a new one.
Check your drainpipe
It is essential to check your drainpipe for any clogs that may have built up over time. If you are unable to do this, you can hire a professional to perform the inspection for you. An HVAC professional is also able to clear the drain pipes for you if algae have built up there.
